Digital Platform for Water Safety Plan (WSP) Audit and Certification
As part of efforts to strengthen drinking water safety, the PCA includes the development of a digital platform to support Water Safety Plan (WSP) audit and certification.
This platform is being developed in collaboration with regulators such as the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission and relevant sector ministries. It is designed to:
- Facilitate the systematic assessment of WSP implementation by service providers
- Support regulatory oversight through standardised audit protocols
- Enable real-time data capture, reporting, and compliance tracking
- Improve transparency and accountability in water safety management
The platform represents a significant step toward the digital transformation of regulatory processes in Ghana’s water sector.
Economic Analysis of Drinking Water Systems in Ghana
The PCA includes a comprehensive study of the economic case for increased investment in safe public drinking water systems, with a focus on sachet water consumption. The study:
- Compares costs of sachet water versus piped water provision
- Assesses affordability, willingness to pay, and household behaviour
- Evaluates environmental externalities, particularly plastic waste
- Provides policy recommendations for scaling public water infrastructure
This work directly informs national strategies led by agencies such as:
- Ghana Water Limited (GWL)
- Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA)
- Small Water Enterprises
- Sachet Water Producers
